For all my California girlies and guys who want to have the HBCU (Historically Black College and University) experience without having to leave your hometown, Huston-Tillotson University has made that dream come true for you. The Austin, Texas based private HBCU has been approved to provide online coursework starting in January 2025.

There has also been talks of in-person curriculum offerings with a branch campus by August 2025. Fingers crossed!

Huston-Tillotson was established in 1875 and has religious affiliations with the United Methodist Church and the United Church of Christ. It has several programs including an “Adult Degree Program” tailored to those who work full-time. The program offers a flexible course structure for those who pursue their educational goals while not having to choose between work and school.

It offers a plethora of undergraduate degrees in fields such as biology, chemistry, computer science, education, English, history, mathematics, and more. For those who aspire to pursue a graduate degree, Huston-Tillotson offers business administration and educational leadership. More information can be found here: https://htu.edu/academics/degrees/.

The historically Black university also has an athletics department comprising both male and female sports. For male athletes there is baseball, basketball, cross country, outdoor track and field, and soccer. For women, there is also a basketball, soccer, outdoor track and field, and softball department. Volleyball and cheerleading are options for female athletes. Visit https://htramsathletics.com/, for more information.
