The rap girlies are taking over and are outside working - literally. Nicki Minaj just finished her “Pink Friday 2 World Tour.” Latto released her Sugar Honey Iced Tea album which had fans on social media participating in the ‘Brokey’ challenge- making captivating videos using her song and is now gearing up for her album inspired tour. Megan Thee Stallion wrapped up her “Hot Girl Summer” with GloRilla aka ‘Big Glo.’ The list goes on and on.
Speaking of GloRilla…the Memphis, Tennessee native released her debut studio album, Glorious, on October 11 which has completely taken over the internet, radio, and the clubs. After releasing her breakout single “F.N.F. (Let’s Go) in 2022, I think we were all foreshadowing her to be included in a playlist on one or all of our music streaming services.
Glorious has 15 tracks with features from Latto, Sexyy Red, Muni Long, Kirk Franklin, Maverick City Music, Kierra Sheard, Chandler Moore, Megan Thee Stallion, Bossman Dlow, T-Pain, and Fridayy.
“TGIF” was the introductory song off of her debut album and was released on June 21. This song set the tone for the album giving us Instagram caption and inspiration for the next viral trend on TikTok with the popular chorus “It’s seven PM Friday/ Ninety-five degrees/ I ain’t got no n***a/ And no n***a ain’t got me.” This tagline was literally everyone’s favorite including Rihanna!
I heard the entire album was a vibe start to finish, so I had to check it out myself. Not gonna lie, the people didn't lie! Here are my favorites.
Her second single “Hollon” gave us what it needed to give, similar to “TGIF.” The energy of this song propels you to continue to stand on business, flex on your haters, and get to the bag.
One thing’s for certain about rappers from the south is that they will support each other. GloRilla’s single “WHATCHU KNO ABOUT ME” featuring the hood’s hottest princess, Sexyy Redd, sampled Boosie’s 2007 hit single “Wipe Me Down.” Boosie made a special appearance in the visuals to this song to show love to his fellow southern rapper.
“HOW I LOOK” featuring Ms. Hot Girl Summer herself, Megan Thee Stallion reminds the ladies that we don’t have time to go back and forth with our haters. When you’re busy getting to the bag and accomplishing your goals, you don’t have time to entertain nonsense.
Big Glo let us know she can get in her rnb bag as well. So a feature with T-Pain for “I LUV HER,” also known as Teddy Pain, was needed. Personally, this is my favorite track on the album. Everyone knows a T-Pain feature will do it every single time. This time around Glo is letting us know she can channel her inner soft side. Our girl is usually on her “F.N.F” vibe, but even a boss needs love too.
