Raise your hand if you want to achieve your fitness goals. Now raise your hand if you struggle with consistency when it comes to working out. Speaking from personal experience, it is extremely difficult for me to be consistent when it comes to being more active in the gym or simply working out at home. Although I am getting a tad better with moving my body, I still have a long way to go. I can remember a few years back I would go to the gym at least four times a week. I noticed a lot of improvement and was relatively happy with the results. What was the difference between then and now?

I had a gym buddy.

After we both were off work, my friend and I would put on our waist trainers, and head to the gym. We would spot each other when doing different exercises, have quick chats in between sets, share inside jokes and laugh about them, and just enjoy each other’s company. It made working out much easier.

If you’re the person who needs a little extra push like myself when it comes to working out or is not a fan of going to the gym alone, grab a friend and try these fitness challenges together.

  1. Push-Up Challenge - Each day you and your bestie can challenge each other to see who has the strongest upper body strength and who can do the most push-ups before getting tired. 50? 100? 200? Who knows? By the time the challenge is over, both of you might be toting around huge muscles in your arms.

  2. Sweat It Out By Dancing It Out - Another great and fun way to workout is through dancing. Dancing is definitely as this generation likes to call it “slept on.” You both can choose a genre of dance to learn choreography to each week, or however long it will take you to learn, and practice with each other. If you already love to dance, why not add a friend to the equation and get a sweat in?

  3. Plank Challenge - You can compete with each other to see who can hold the plank position the longest. You can also switch it up by incorporating wall planks.

  4. Cardio Challenge - Cardio is crucial to a good workout. Athletes before a game or practice incorporate some sort of cardio before doing anything extra physical. Challenge each other to see who takes the most steps throughout the day, or go to a park and see who runs the most laps. This way you are improving and raising your heart rate, lungs, and blood circulation.

  5. Mindfulness Challenge - As much as physical health is so important, ensuring our mental well-being is looked after is also vital. Meditating, practicing yoga, and breathing techniques are great ways to get your mind in shape.

There are numerous challenges you can partake in with friends. Remember the goal is to have fun while improving your overall health. If you can think of any others, comment below.
